Contraception

The practice offers family planning advice within normal surgery hours. We offer the contraceptive pill, depo provera (12 weekly injection), diaphragms and referral for sterilisation. An appointment should initially be made with a doctor who will discuss family history and personal history and possible complications before prescribing some contraception. We are able to advise on I.U.D (coil) use but these are fitted by the local family planning clinics.

Emergency contraceptive pills can be taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex. They are more effective the earlier they are taken. (Alternatively it may be possible to have an IUD fitted up to 5 days after sex to prevent pregnancy).
