Diabetes
There are two types of Diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes is treated by injections of insulin and a healthy diet. Type 2 Diabetes is treated by a healthy diet or by a combination of a healthy diet and tablets. People with Type 2 diabetes may also have insulin injections, although they are not totally dependent on the insulin.
In order to keep well and healthy, everyone with diabetes needs regular monitoring by the doctor and practice nurse. The continued control of your diabetes is very important as this will reduce your chances of developing the serious health problems linked to diabetes, such as heart disease, circulation problems, amputation and blindness.
Patients with Diabetes will be asked to make a double appointment with the practice nurse who may take a blood test as well as ensuring weight and blood pressure are within normal limits. Referral to the dietician or to an exercise programme may also be generated. Review intervals may vary depending on blood sugar and general control of your diabetes.
