Heart Disease

Narrowing of the coronary arteries that feed the heart causes heart disease. Like any muscle, the heart needs a constant supply of oxygen and nutrients, which are carried to it by the blood in the coronary arteries. When the coronary arteries become narrowed or clogged by cholesterol and fat deposits and cannot supply enough blood to the heart, the result is coronary heart disease or CHD.

It is essential that blood pressure, weight, and cholesterol are managed and monitored to ensure that heart disease does not deteriorate. Stopping smoking, regular exercise and a healthy diet are a self-help way of reducing further risk.

It is imperative to have any form of heart disease is monitored and assessed on a regular basis. The practice nurse runs a CHD clinic by 30 minute appointment. If you have not been reviewed in the past 12 months, please make an appointment as soon as possible.
