Hypertension

Hypertension is a condition caused by blood being pumped around the body at an increased pressure which puts a strain on the heart and arteries which if left untreated or unmonitored can lead to heart attack/failure, stroke, kidney failure and visual problems. Anyone can be hypertensive and certain lifestyle factors such as diabetes, obesity, smoking, lack of exercise, alcoholism and excessive salt intake can aggravate the condition.

The practice nurse or doctor are available to record blood pressure by single appointment. You may be referred for a blood test and/or hospital should medication fail to reduce or control high blood pressure. Patients are reviewed at various time intervals, depending on the control of hypertension. If you have not had a review or take hypertension medication and have not had a blood test in the past 12 months, please telephone the practice and make an appointment.
