Local Clinics/Family Planning

Family planning clinics are run all over Wandsworth, usually in local health centres. The clinics are open to men and women and no appointment is necessary, unless you require specialist advice.

The clinics give contraceptive advice and supplies, including condoms, emergency after sex contraception, advice on safer sex, cervical smears, breast examination and self examination, pregnancy testing, referral for colposcopy, referral for termination of pregnancy, preconceptual advice, rubella testing and immunisation.

A female nurse or doctor is always available for woman.

NHS Direct is a nurse led 24 hour advice line. Patients should telephone 0845 46 47. This service can provide the necessary advice for patients seeking information about particular health conditions, what to do if you or your family are feeling ill, local healthcare services, such as doctors, dentists or late night opening pharmacies and self help and support organisations.

Tooting Walk-In Centre

Tooting walk-in centre offers fast access to health advice, information and treatment as no appointment is needed. The centre is open to anyone on a drop-in basis, 7 days a week providing treatment for minor injuries and illnesses. The centre is mainly staffed by experienced NHS nurses as well as two nurse consultants, one covering mental health and one covering primary care. It provides the local primary care out-of-hours service and offers information on local out-of-hours GP and dental services. Emergency Contraception is also available.

Tooting NHS Walk-In Centre is located within Clare House on the St George’s Hospital site and is close to the A&E department. Opening times are 7am to 10pm seven days a week.

Primary Care Trusts

As Queenstown Road Medical Practice has an area that covers Wandsworth and a small part of Lambeth our services are provided by two Primary Care Trusts. The trusts provide a range of community nursing and therapy services including health centres and clinics, GP surgeries, district nursing, health visiting, specialist nursing, school nursing, family planning, HIV services, haemoglobinopathies, community dentistry, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech & language therapy, dietetics, rehabilitation services, and a Walk-In Centre based in the grounds of St George’s Hospital.
